2019 SPRING CLEAN

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

In the spring of 2019, The Perennial Project took its first step toward transformation—with a truckload of shovels, rakes, flats of annual flowers, and a whole lot of hope. Side by side, students, local officials, and everyday townspeople came together to clean up our streets, plant beauty in forgotten spaces, and reclaim a sense of pride in Brownsville.

We knew we couldn’t change the world overnight—but we could clean it up, brighten it with blooms, and show that even the smallest act of care can take root. That day marked the beginning of something bigger: a growing movement to restore, reimagine, and rise—from the ground up.
