2021 SPRING CLEAN
The Year We Came Back Bigger, Bolder, & Blooming
In 2021, we didn’t just return—we came back with a vengeance.
Fueled by a growing volunteer army of students, families, and residents, The Perennial Project transformed cleanup into a movement. Downtown Brownsville pulsed with energy as shovels hit the soil, flowers filled the streets, and neighbors rallied to reclaim their town—block by block, bloom by bloom.
This year’s highlight? A vibrant pop-up garden on a once-vacant lot, brought to life in partnership with a local Girl Scout troop. Using a historic Conestoga wagon, reclaimed materials, and a whole lot of imagination, the garden exploded with color, creativity, and community pride. What was once overlooked became a destination—and a symbol of what’s possible when people come together to plant change.
2021 proved one thing loud and clear:
This isn’t just cleanup—it’s a revival in full bloom.
